Your bathroom is a busy place. It is the place where you and your family get ready for your day. Chances are good it is also the place where you prepare for bed, too. With so much going on and so many people in and out of there, you need to maximize its storage potential where ever possible. If you are looking for more places to put things without overwhelming your space, here are seven suggestions to get the most storage into your bathroom.
Under Sink Storage
If you have a cabinet under your sink, then this is probably a pretty obvious suggestion. However, you may find that you are able to maximize that space by adding shelves or plastic containers. If you do not already have shelves then adding shelves will allow you additional levels of storage. Baskets or plastic totes can act as drawers, allowing you to group like items in one place.
If you have a pedestal sink, have no fear. You can find shelving that was actually designed to fit around the pedestal to create more storage in your bathroom. Check with your local home store. You can also use baskets to create attractive storage on these shelves and help you to keep your items discretely.
Narrow Storage Cabinets
In the home section of most department stores, where you will find storage products, you can find narrow storage cabinets with drawers. These cabinets can be placed between the commode and the wall or the commode and the sink. Some of them are as narrow as 8 inches across. They are a good place to store paper products, hygiene products and even cleaning products. They provide easy and quick access to the things you use the most.
Over the Sink
We often think of the sink collecting a lot of clutter in the way of toothbrushes and hair products. But, what if you placed a small shelf between the sink and the mirror? If your mirror does not extend all the way to the sink, you may have the space for a small shelf to keep items such as toothbrushes and razors. If you do not have the space on the wall directly in front of the sink, what about wall space right next to the sink? You could hang shelves like spice racks on the wall next to the sink. You could keep not just toothbrushes and razors, but hair brushes and anything else you may need handy when you are at the mirror.
On the Door
The door is another place where you can squeeze in a little bit of space. You may not be able to put shelves there, but it is an excellent place to hang towels. You can add towel racks directly to the back of your bathroom door, or you can hang hooks over the top of the door.
Another idea for the bathroom door is to hang a shoe organizer on it. Each family member can have their own pocket for storing their own personal items. It frees up a lot of space on the sink and in other places where those items might create clutter and chaos.
In the Closet
If you have a closet in your bathroom, then you are probably already making use of it. If you are able to put things into bins, this might help you to create some order. Also, consider a lazy susan to help you access items that might get lost in the back of the closet, otherwise.
Hanging in the Tub
In most home stores you can find racks specifically designed to fit in your bathtub and shower. You can find racks designed to fit in the corners. You can also find shower caddies that hang from the shower head.
Over the Toilet
At this point you should have figured out that you can fit shelves just about anywhere. The commode is no exception. You can install shelves overhead where you can place towels, jars and baskets. And, just as there are shelves designed to fit around your pedestal sink, there are also shelves designed to fit over your toilet. The legs of these units sit on either side of the tank while holding the shelves over the top of everything.
