Known as attending, the usual way of remembering a name is to shake hands and repeat the name of the individual to burn it into our memory. Technology is changing the way we interact and making it harder for us to remember simple items such as names on an everyday basis but these issues can be avoided by taking notes regarding the people we meet each day. Simply writing the name of the person with the location we met at uses a technique made popular regarding the recall of everyday items in our lives.

3. Vitamin B levels

Did you know many elderly people who are diagnosed with dementia actually have a vitamin B deficiency? The low levels of vitamin B12 seen in many seniors have a negative impact on their ability to recall everyday items and the names of those around them. If you are struggling to recall everyday items due to memory loss you could take the option of visiting a medical professional and having your vitamin B12 levels checked as these have been associated with memory loss in people moving from middle-age to senior.

Meditation is one of the leading ways of halting memory loss and even reducing this loss in the future with this practice improving the amount of gray matter made by your brain. Meditation is something that can improve your memory over the course of the short and long-term by stimulating the production of gray matter responsible for your ability to recall. As we age we begin to lose gray matter with just a few minutes of meditation helping you improve your ability to recall a range of new material in a short space of time.

5. Maintain your ideal weight

You can struggle to keep your memory at the correct level at any age of life when you are overweight and unhealthy. The higher your weight above the correct weight for your height can reduce your ability to recall items when you are given a memory test. Unlike some of the other factors, this is not one linked to age as the problem affected those in a test who were aged between 18 and 35 who were given memory tests. Even at this optimum age for recall, those who were overweight performed poorly on memory tests meaning keeping your weight down is the best way of preserving your memory.
